Abstract

Marriage continues to function as a foundational institution within Islamic civilization, yet contemporary Muslim societies are increasingly confronted with profound disruptions in marital stability. This article offers a comprehensive and critical analysis of marital relationships through a Seerah-centered framework, integrating classical Islamic sources with contemporary sociological realities. It argues that the ethical and relational model demonstrated by the Prophet Muhammadصلى الله عليه وسلم provides not only normative ideals but also actionable strategies for addressing modern marital crises, including emotional detachment, communication breakdown, financial stress and shifting gender roles. Employing a qualitative, analytical methodology grounded in Qur’ānic exegesis, Prophetic traditions, and interdisciplinary scholarship, the study explores the multidimensional nature of marriage as a spiritual covenant (mithāq ghalīẓ), a socio-legal institution and a space for ethical cultivation. The findings suggest that the erosion of core Islamic values, such as compassion (raḥmah), affection (mawaddah) and justice (‘adl), lies at the heart of contemporary marital dysfunction. By re-centering the Seerah as a living ethical paradigm, this study proposes a revivalist framework aimed at restoring marital harmony, strengthening family structures and promoting long-term societal stability.
