Technical skills have become a pivotal driver for achieving economic stability, self-reliance, and sustainable development in the contemporary knowledge economy. In an era marked by rapid technological advancement, globalization, and shifting labor market demands, the acquisition of vocational competencies plays a crucial role in reducing unemployment, enhancing industrial productivity, and upgrading societal living standards. Islam, as a comprehensive way of life, profoundly encourages productive labor, skill acquisition, professional excellence (Ihsan), and lawful earning (Halal Rizq) as essential components of individual and collective well-being. The Qur’ān and Sunnah strongly emphasize self-sufficiency, craftsmanship, and the responsible utilization of human capital.
Utilizing a qualitative and analytical methodology, this study explores the conceptual framework, contemporary significance, and practical dimensions of technical skills in promoting economic prosperity from an Islamic perspective. It critically examines Islamic textual evidence and classical jurisprudential principles related to work ethics, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and economic self-reliance, aligning them with contemporary socioeconomic challenges. The findings of this study demonstrate how integrating technical and vocational skills with Islamic socio-economic principles can offer practical models for sustainable economic growth, poverty alleviation, and employment generation. Ultimately, the study provides strategic insights for policymakers to incorporate Islamic ethical work dimensions into modern vocational education frameworks for Muslim societies.
